A brazen shooting at a busy  Vancouver shopping centre left an Ontario man with gang links  dead Sunday afternoon.

Duy Ly Nguyen, 30,  was shot shortly after 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the plaza on King Edward Avenue off Oak Street.

He was found dead in the front passenger seat of a white Toyota Camry, Vancouver Police Sgt. Randy Fincham said Monday.

“The shooting is believed to be targeted and is likely the result of an ongoing gang conflict.  There have been no arrests made in the case,” he said.

Nguyen was found by police who responded to 911 calls about shots fired, Const. Brian Montague said Sunday.

He said the are was was busy with shoppers at the time – there’s a Safeway, a bank, restaurants and a number of other shops in the strip mall.

“Several witnesses have been taken by bus to a VPD building to be interviewed. Many of those witnesses were  clearly shaken by the incident,” Montague said. “Police have  not confirmed the identity of the victim and no arrests have been made.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the VPD Major Crime at 604-717-2500.

I’ll update readers if I learn more.
