John Carlton Lewis, aka General Beanz, appeared briefly in Vancouver Provincial Court Friday on the gun charges laid against him last May.
As you recall, he’s alleged to have pulled a firearm at a Yaletown Restaurant and threatened someone.
He’s been in custody ever since. At the time, I wrote about some of the videos he’s posted online featuring himself playing with guns and rapping about violent acts against cops.
And I noted how he had gang links and had posted the infamous United Nations group photo on his Instagram account.
His case may go to trial in November, though that won’t be confirmed for a while.
Meanwhile, the man arrested with Lewis in Vancouver – Louie Angelo Mojica – was gunned down in Calgary in August while out on bail on the charge laid against him in B.C.
The 27-year-old was facing one count of occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm is present. That charge is still on the books but will no doubt be “abated” – which is the term used for suspending charges when someone has been killed or died.
Mojica was found fatally wounded just after midnight on Aug. 12 in the driver’s seat of his girlfriend’s white Dodge Charger. He was a few blocks from his home in Northwest Calgary.
In other court news, my colleague Keith Fraser was at B.C. Supreme Court Friday where Associate Chief Justice Austin Cullen ordered Glenn Sheck released on $500,000 bail pending his extradition hearing in January.
Here’s my earlier story on the case against Sheck:
