A well-known Fraser Valley gangster and two associates are facing drug trafficking charges after an investigation that spanned months by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit.
Chilliwack resident Clayton Eheler, 33, was arrested last week in Richmond and has now been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
He’s been released on a number of conditions until his next appearance on Jan. 5, 2016.
Warrants have been issued for the arrest of two other Chilliwack men also charged – Raymond Morrissey, 59, and Mathew Jordan Thiessen, 29.
In November 2014 and Feburary 2015, CFSEU officers executed search warrants in connection with a lengthy investigation into a drug trafficking syndicate moving large amounts of drugs from the Fraser Valley to northern B.C.
Cocaine, crystal meth, fentanyl, pot and other drugs estimated to be worth more than $5 million on the street were seized during the probe, as well as firearms.
“This was a complex, multi-jurisdictional investigation affecting several areas throughout B.C. and in Alberta,” CFSEU media officer, Constable Jordan McLellan, said. “The removal of potentially deadly street drugs like fentanyl makes our communities safer.”
He said CFSEU began the investigation in August 2014 and continued for several months.
In May 2015, CFSEU investigators in the north “intercepted an alleged drug runner with connections to the Fraser Valley crime cell as he drove to Fort St. John and met with other members of the drug trafficking group,” he said.
Eheler is a former associate of the Bacon brothers with a lengthy criminal history.
And he travelled to southeast Asia and visited with Independent Soldiers gangsters James Riach and Barry Espadilla before they were charged in Manila in January 2014 for allegedly running a drug trafficking operation there.
Eheler had drug charges against him stayed in 2010. And he was acquitted after being charged in a 2006 Chilliwack nightclub shooting. He has also been targeted in two drive-by shootings.
Eheler has convictions dating back to 2001 for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault, theft, mischief, possession for the purpose of trafficking, uttering threats and criminal harassment.
And was implicated in another court case involving his friend Riach as admiring and handling firearms inside an apartment Riach rented in Vancouver at the time.
