Man wounded in third Surrey shooting in three days

A 22-year-old man is recovering from gunshot wounds after the third Surrey shooting in three days.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann said officers found the man in the 7600-block of 124 Street after getting contacted by the B.C. Ambulance Service just after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Schumann said the victim is known to police and was associated to one of two vehicles involved in a “confrontation.”

His injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening.

“The investigation is in its infancy and it’s too early to make any connections to other Lower Mainland shootings,” Schumann said. “We can say that the incident appears to be targeted given just two vehicles were involved.  Our Major Crime Unit, Patrol officers, and Integrated Forensic Identification Services are all on scene conducting a thorough examination of the area. The neighborhood is also being canvassed for witnesses and any other evidence. We’re hoping that anyone with information about these two groups will come forward and help us advance the investigation.”

Strawberry Hill Elementary School has been cordoned off as police collect evidence in the area, he said.

Surrey Mounties are also investigating a shooting involving two vehicles Monday at 5:15 p.m. in the 13200-block of 89 Avenue. No one was injured.

And on Saturday evening, Mounties received several reports of shots fired in the 6800-block of 128 Street.

A man later called police to report that his vehicle had been fired on in the area, but S. Sgt. Joe Johal said in a news release that “occupants of the vehicle are providing very limited information to the investigators.”
