Surrey Mounties are searching for a suspect after a targeted shooting left one man with injuries about 8:40 a.m. Thursday.
Cpl. Scotty Schumann said in a news release that the shooting occurred near 96th Avenue and 116th Street – not far from the Surrey/Delta border,
He said the victim is a 33-year-old Surrey man.
He was taken to hospital, though there is no information available on the extent of his injuries.
“The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival and is still outstanding. A nearby school, Royal Heights Elementary, was locked out temporarily as a precaution while police investigated,” Schumann said.
He said Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit is leading this investigation.
“Officers are receiving assistance from Delta Police while neighbourhood canvasses for witnesses and video surveillance are conducted,” Schumann said.
“Surrey RCMP investigates all shootings thoroughly and they are a priority matter for the detachment. If anyone saw this incident unfold or has any information about those involved, police would like to hear from you right away.”
He said it is too early to say if the shooting is linked to the drug trade or other recent shootings.
Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
